Obituary

Rachel F. Herb, 95, of Clemson, died August 20. Born in Mohnton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. Fisher and Edith Hart Fisher. She graduated from Mohnton High School as valedictorian. She was a supervisor at the RM Palmer Co. of Reading, PA, and was the president of the Women's Management Club there. Other community services included the presidency of the YWCA and also trustee and board member of the Reading Music Foundation where she was the coordinator of the Music in the Schools program. She also served on the board of the Reading Symphony Orchestra and was a president of its Women's Committee. She co-chaired the 70th anniversary celebration of the RSO.

Other services include Judge of Elections in Cumru Township, PA and served on the township's parks feasibility committee. She was a volunteer coordinator and trainer and a public speaker for the United Fund, leading its workshop for social agencies. She served on the board of the Berksiana Foundation, the Neighborhood Youth Corps and the committee to build a civic center. She was a recipient of the Ella Erdman Award and nominee for the William Kline Award in Reading.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Mohnton, PA for over 50 years where she served in numerous capacities. While living in Clemson, she was a member of Salem United Methodist Church for over 27 years where she served as liturgist and was a member of United Methodist Women and the Pastor-Parish Committee.

In Clemson Downs she served on the board of directors of the Property Owners' Association. She also served on the steering committee for the building of the Brooks Center for Performing Arts at Clemson University. She was a member of the Greenville Symphony Guild, the League of American Symphony Orchestras, the Nature Conservancy and the Golden Girls Investment Club. She was active in the Alzheimer's Support Group in Clemson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Herb; brothers: Robert A. Fisher, Reading, PA; Warren A. Fisher, Shillington, PA, and Norman E. Fisher, Brecknock Township, PA and a sister, Margaret E. Krafzeck, Reading PA. She is survived by sons Jeffrie A. Adams, husband of Cynthia of Advance, NC; Phillip A. Adams, husband of Joan, Baldwin, MD; stepson Thomas L. Herb of Reading, PA and stepdaughter Barbara, wife of Roy Wright of Denver, CO. There also remain two granddaughters; Karen Warren, and Brenda Adams; step-grandchildren Melissa Brewer, Melanie Hathaway, Edward Kreutzer, Ellen Kerkhoff and Anne Hebert. Also surviving are three great grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
