John Robinson "J.R." Brown, 90, of Fair Play, husband of the late Ruby Wade Brown, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late John Robinson Brown, Sr. and Leona Winchester Brown

CW4 Brown was retired from the US Army after 44 years of dedicated service, active and reserve, proudly serving in WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded The Army Commendation Medal from President Ronald Reagan in 1987 and was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer4. He was a 1956 graduate of Clemson College with a B.S. degree in Industrial Management. He was employed as an Industrial Engineer with Woodside Mills and Abney Mills. He was the Director of the evening college of Tri County Technical College, was the manager of the Clemson House, and retired as Director of Residential Housing at Clemson University. He also was a member of the Bates Lodge #189 A.F.M and The Hejaz Shriners.

Surviving are his children, Nancy B. Carter and husband, Bruce, of Charleston, Keith Brown and wife, Elizabeth, and Mattison Brown all of Fair Play; grandchildren, Brad Carter, Nikki Smith, Mary Catherine Sears, Jonathan Brown, Laura Brooke Wicker and Brittany Butler; twenty-one great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Virginia Greer of Easley and Marcella Southerland of Anderson.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Brown and sisters, Amelia McCall and Geraldine Lesley.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, with full military honors.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at the funeral home.
