Helen Manning Morton, 76, wife of Benjamin C. Morton, Jr. passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021. She was born August 2, 1944, in Barnwell, SC, a daughter of William H. and Sara G. Manning.

Helen grew up in Barnwell, SC and throughout her life enjoyed helping others. She loved to volunteer at local schools, her church, and the hospital. One of her great joys was to visit those who were sick and those who needed love and care. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She especially cherished her time playing games with her four grandchildren and baking them chocolate chip cookies. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Benjamin C. Morton, Jr., of Pendleton; two daughters, Carolyn Morton Mohr and husband Gary, of Pendleton, and Mary Frances Morton Barnett and husband Karl of Athens, GA; a sister, Billie Breeden Manning of Columbia, SC; a sister-in-law Francie Manning Franklin; and four grandchildren, Benjamin "Benja" Gary Mohr, Kenneth "Andrew" Mohr, Hannah Elizabeth Barnett, and Owen Morton Barnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Glenn McCall Manning.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, July 28th at the Pendleton Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pendleton. The family will receive friends following the service inside the church sanctuary.

Ben, Please think back to many years ago when we all lived in Greenville and were single. Helen and I had been friends at Columbia College and worked together at the same school. Lots of good memories. We always kept up at Christmas and had phone calls over the years especially when I lived out of state. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much you and your family meant to her.
