Derek was a wonderful son and man! I remember he left to go to boot camp a cubby boy and came to see me a skinny young man! He worked at Winn Dixie for me. He was just like a Son to me! I will miss his beautiful smile. Rest in Peace! Until we meet again one Day! Love you Paige

Derek (spc) Bayne worked as a UH-60 maintainer while i was assigned as the Production Control Officer for 4/101 Ann. Bn. Derek was one of a few men who were eager and able to take on the most challenging and meticulous repair tasks. He could always be counted on to complete the task properly and on time. Derek and I bumped heads on a few occasions and always were able to continue on professionally and respectfully. Feel left he unit I stayed on for an additional 12 years in the same capacity. I can tell you he was a valuable asset, he performed at a level above the average soldier and was continually the go to guy! His PCSing was felt immediately and I can attest to the fact that gap was never adequately filled in his absence. Everyone who knew Derek was a better man for it. My heart is sad our country lost a quality man like Derek. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolences for your devastating loss. Thank you for allowing us to have him for he time we did.
